This 4-day course provides a highly accessible introduction to kayak leadership training. The program offers valuable skills development and leadership instruction, as well as providing a foundation of experiences for participants intending to enroll in Evolution Guide School's 6-day certified guide's course in Clayoquot Sound.
The 4-day course is recommended for sea kayakers who are seeking to significantly boost their paddling and leadership skills. This course covers much of the same curriculum as our 6-day guide's course, however; the 4-day course is not a guide certification course, nor is it a required prerequisite for our certification course. The 4-day course provides very limited practice in surf techniques.
The 4-day course launches from Coopers Green Park, in Halfmoon Bay, near Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia - only two hours by car and ferry from Vancouver, BC. The group base-camps on the Thormanby Islands, in Georgia Strait.
The program consists of four days of experiential learning and informative workshops. During controlled simulations, participants experiment with a wide variety of guiding tools, leadership styles and paddling techniques.
Our group size is limited to eight participants. Food and kayak equipment are included; we provide single and double kayaks, tents, tarps and delicious, healthy meals.
In order to maximize your ability to focus on course materials, each trip includes two instructors plus a full-time cook.
